About the proposal

Waste Management NZ Limited has lodged an application with Waikato Regional Council to construct a new 3 million m3 landfill cell called “Phase C” adjacent to the existing, operational Tirohia Landfill. The proposed landfill cell is estimated to provide approximately 8 to 10 years of additional municipal waste disposal capacity at the Tirohia Landfill site.

Consent application APP141959 was lodged with Waikato Regional Council on 18 June 2020.

Take of 315,360m3 of groundwater per year in association with dewatering during construction and operation of Phase C of the Tirohia Landfill.

Discharge of contaminants onto or into land including in circumstances that may result in contaminants entering water, in relation to the operation of a Phase C of Tirohia's solid waste landfill.
