Waikato Regional Hazards Portal - Terms of use
By using the Waikato Regional Hazards Portal, you are agreeing to the following Terms of Use along with the Spatial Information Terms of Use.
Limitations
The natural hazard data is based on existing research, modelling and observations and some maps have been compiled from legacy data sets. Not all areas of the Waikato Region have been covered to the same extent or depth of detail, depending on available information. Natural hazards might therefore be present in areas not currently mapped within the Portal.
The natural hazard data is based on regional studies and may not account for site specific conditions. In addition, some areas mapped as being subject to a hazard may not be subject to this hazard, particularly if the data is at a “Regional scale” or “General information” level only (i.e. intended as a heads up to indicate where further investigation may be needed) as per Waikato Regional Council’s Natural Hazard Information Hierarchy. This hierarchy specifically supports interpretation of Waikato Regional Council natural hazards data quality, scale, and applicability.
The information contained in the Portal is not a risk assessment or an analysis to determine the cumulative effects of any identified hazards. The natural hazards data does not take into account any interventions that may modify the natural hazard risks to a particular site. For example, a retaining wall may mitigate landslide risk or, if in poor condition, could exacerbate the risk.
We recommend obtaining expert advice to assist with interpreting this information for risk assessment purposes. Please note that while the information contained in the Portal may appear on a Land Information Memorandum (LIM), this information itself does not replace a Land Information Memorandum (LIM) which can be requested from your district/city council.
