Government review of Overseer

In December 2018, the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment recommended a review of Overseer. That review has now been completed. It was carried out by a science advisory panel made up of independent experts appointed by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and Ministry for the Environment (MfE).

The panel identified shortcomings in Overseer’s modelling approach and on Wednesday, 11 August 2021, the Government released its response to the panel’s review findings.

The Government has made it clear that consent conditions will continue to apply and new applications will continue to be processed.

However, we will be assessing the detail of the Government’s review and subsequent decisions to understand what it might mean for the Waikato region in the future, including any possible impact on proposed Waikato Regional Plan Change 1.
