This opportunity runs from Nov 2024 – Feb 2025 and would suit an enthusiastic team player who has experience and understanding of GIS software particularly across the ArcGIS suite including ArcPro and AGOL.

We are looking for a student who is a whiz with MS Excel, to assist our Consents Data Officer with inputting water take data received from resource consent holders into databases. 

You will be in a unique position to gain an understanding of the resource consent processing and compliance monitoring functions at Waikato Regional Council.  To be successful in this role you will have an eye for detail, can identify trends and anomalies in data, and be customer, team and solution focused.

This role will be for 12 weeks over the summer.

The role of ‘student economist’ will support the planning team by providing information and analysis, particularly relating to the farm systems in the region and how they may be affected by the review of the freshwater provisions of the Waikato Regional Plan.

The role will provide opportunities for a student economist to apply their fresh learnings and skills, working alongside economists, scientists and other professionals on a crucial resource management issue that is relevant throughout the country. The ideal candidate will be able to undertake applied research of rural enterprises and assist with the development of a database of baseline statistics to represent the wide range of primary industry sectors in the Waikato region.
