Notice of proposed river survey - Tongariro and Tauranga-Taupō rivers

Published 3 March 2025

Waikato Regional Council has organised a survey to gather information on the channel and flood assets as routine monitoring of the Tongariro and Tauranga-Taupō flood protection schemes.

Survey fieldwork is planned for 3-28 March. Surveying may be carried out during daylight hours on any day of the week except public holidays.

Public Transport - Bee Card Terms and Conditions are changing

The Bee Scheme is updating its expiry terms and conditions on 27 February 2025 in preparation for Motu Move, a new ticketing and payment solution.

Motu Move is rolling out region-by-region offering new ways to pay for public transport in New Zealand. This means fair and consistent conditions need to be set for the expiry of Bee Cards for all Bee regions. To read all terms and conditions visit: beecard.co.nz

Proposed Plan Change 2 (Private) to the Waikato Regional Coastal Plan: Pare Hauraki Kaimoana – Minister’s decision and operative date

Pursuant to Clause 20 of Schedule 1 of the Resource Management Act 1991, Waikato Regional Council gives notice that Proposed Plan Change 2 (Private) to the Waikato Regional Coastal Plan: Pare Hauraki Kaimoana will become operative on 22 January 2025.

Notice of Freshwater Management Amendments to the Waikato Regional Plan

Clause 3.22 of the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020 requires regional councils to include a specific policy regarding natural inland wetlands in regional plans. This policy was inserted into the Waikato Regional Plan in 2021 as Policy 3.A.2. The Minister for the Environment subsequently made changes to this clause and further changes were made in the Resource Management (Freshwater and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2024. Waikato Regional Council is therefore required to amend the Waikato Regional Plan to include the updated policy wording.

On 5 December 2024, in accordance with s55(2A) of the Resource Management Act 1991, Policy 3.A.2 in Section 3A of the Waikato Regional Plan was amended to incorporate the changes made to clause 3.22 of the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020.

Notice of herbicide spraying under resource consent 124871

Waikato Regional Council advises that under Resource Consent 124871 spraying of pest plants growing in aquatic and semi-aquatic locations will continue over the next three months.

Notice of herbicide use (Coastcare restoration programme)

Waikato Regional Council advises that herbicide may be used on public and coastal reserves throughout the Waikato region from now until July 2025 for the control of exotic weeds as part of the Coastcare restoration programme.

This includes (but is not limited to) the Port Waikato, Raglan, Ruapuke, Aotea, Kāwhia, Kiritehere, Mokau and Whiritoa areas. The work will be carried out by contractors in accordance with the Waikato Regional Plan. A spray plan is available on request.

Herbicides which may be used, and their HSNO classes, include (but are not limited to):

  • Associate 600WDG: 6.3B, 6.4A, 9.1A, 9.2A
  • Conquest/Tordon Brushkiller: 3.1D, 6.1D, 6.3B, 6.4A, 6.5B, 6.9B, 9.1A, 9.2A, 9.3C

Notice of final representation arrangements for the 2025 local elections

The council has been conducting a representation review, which it is required to do every six years. The last review was in 2018. 

The review process has included public consultation on a proposal to change the boundaries of the Waihou and Thames-Coromandel general constituencies. Consultation has concluded, with no appeals being received. The changes will take effect for the 2025 triennial elections. 

Notice of Waikato region rating information database – available for public inspection

Pursuant to Section 28 of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, Waikato Regional Council gives notice that the Waikato region’s rating information database (RID) is available for public inspection at the council, 160 Ward Street, Hamilton, between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The RID contains information required by the council for setting and assessing rates on each rating unit within the Waikato region. The owner’s names and postal addresses of properties are available for inspection on the RID unless the council has received a request in writing for withholding the owner’s names or postal addresses or both from the RID. All requests made for the withholding of names and/or postal addresses must be in writing. Please either:
