About this report

This report provides an overview of the significant natural hazards currently affecting and are likely to affect the Matamata-Piako District. It includes:

  • an initial assessment of a range of existing and potential natural hazard risks that affect the Matamata-Piako District and how these may change over time
  • an initial qualitative risk assessment which identifies the risk to life and property in broad terms
  • an identification of gaps and priorities
  • a basis for developing effective district plan provisions regarding natural hazards.

Both Matamata Piako District Council (MPDC) and Waikato Regional Council (WRC) have ongoing natural hazards commitments in the district. This report presents an initial analysis for the key natural hazards and provides guidance to MPDC and WRC for the prioritisation of natural hazards work programmes.
