Transport Baseline Data and Regional Overview

TR 2000/01

Report: TR 2000/01

Author: Bill McMaster

Abstract

This Transport Baseline Data and Regional Overview Report is the first step in the review of the Waikato Regional Land Transport Strategy. Its purpose is to set the scene for the review and it will be followed by a Transport Issues Paper and a Transport Options Report before a Draft Regional Land Transport Strategy is produced toward the end of 2000.

This Baseline report begins by presenting a picture of the region and its people. This is followed by an examination of the regional economy and a profile of industry and agriculture.

The report then provides an overview of the transport sector and looks at some of key areas affecting the transport sector such as environmental matters and the roles of the various transport modes.

The report then goes on to list some of the key strategic transport projects that are current in the region at present. The report concludes with a summary of possible transport indicators that could be incorporated into the final Strategy.

In the appendix of the report is a summary of various transportation studies that have been done as part of the implementation of the Regional Land Transport Strategy since the first Strategy was produced in 1993.
