Environmental Monitoring work and programmes

Waikato Regional Council works with other regional and unitary councils around New Zealand to routinely collect environmental data as part of the State of Environment (SOE) monitoring programme. This data is used to:

  • detect changes in environmental conditions and trends, and
  • detect changes in the state of the environment following the implementation of council plans and strategies.

Waikato Regional Council collects monitoring data and reports on our region’s coastal, freshwater and terrestrial habitats to improve our understanding and our impact on the environment. This data is also used for reporting by the Ministry for the Environment and Statistics New Zealand.
