X-treme Waste is a community organisation based in Raglan (Whaingaroa), working to reduce and manage waste. They sort and process waste, removing as much recyclable product as possible from the waste stream.
X-treme Waste also manages and maintains the Raglan refuse transfer station. Solid waste that enters the transfer station is sorted, and recyclable material is removed from the waste stream. This has reduced the amount of material destined for a landfill by over 70 percent.
Since July 2000 X-treme Waste has undertaken:
- waste collection – including weekly kerbside collections and collections from businesses
- waste processing
- community education on waste
- research and monitoring of waste management initiatives.
