Media release from Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group
A joint Waikato mayoral relief fund established to raise funds for quake-hit Christchurch is due to close on 30 April.
The fund’s bank balance stood at more than $32,000 as at 18 April with some significant donations still to be recorded.
Before 30 April, members of the public can still make donations to the Christchurch Earthquake Collective Mayoral Fund by taking them to a National Bank branch, making them direct to account number 06 0317 0096442 05 or by taking donations to local council offices in the Waikato. Donations to this fund are not tax deductible.
Once the fund closes, the money is due to be forwarded to Christchurch mayor Bob Parker’s office for allocation through the local mayoral relief fund, said Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group chairman Hugh Vercoe.
“I would like to extend my thanks to Waikato people who have donated generously to the Waikato mayoral fund and to the other funds set up nationally to support the people of Christchurch,” said Mr Vercoe, the mayor of Matamata-Piako District.
“Along with the Waikato civil defence and emergency services personnel who have generously helped out in Christchurch, financial donations have been a really practical way to provide help to Cantabrians during this very difficult time for them.”
