Transport Minister Pete Hodgson will be asked to provide early funding for key Waikato transport projects when he meets the Waikato Regional Land Transport Committee on Friday.

Committee Chairman Angus Macdonald said the Minister was particularly interested in hearing the Committee’s view on the Waikato’s transport projects face to face.

“The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Committee to brief the Minister on the development of the Regional Land Transport Strategy. This important Strategy will form the blueprint for future transport development in the region over the next 10 years,” he said.

The Minister will also be briefed on the Committee’s submission on Transit New Zealand’s Draft 2005/06 – 2014/15 10-Year State Highway Plan. The submission outlines the Committee’s recommended priorities on large, small and medium sized State Highway projects, including passing lanes.

Key projects include completion of the SH 1 Expressway, safety improvements on SH 2 around Mangatawhiri and Maramarua, the Kopu Bridge replacement and construction of the East Taupo arterial route.
