Tairua bar crossing course

The Tairua-Pauanui Coastguard unit is running a bar crossing education day over the Easter holiday weekend, with support from Waikato Regional Council and the Ministry of Fisheries.

The Tairua bar course is being held at the Pauanui Fire Station on Saturday 30 March, starting at 9am. It’s free to Tairua-Pauanui Coastguard members and $30 for non members.

Numbers are limited, so email to register.

The regional council’s navigation safety programme manager Nicole Botherway encouraged boaties to take up the opportunity to attend the course.

“A highly successful bar crossing day was also held in January. This is a great way for boaties to tap into local knowledge to understand the risks of crossing the Tairua bar and learn how to do so safely,” Ms Botherway said.

Ministry of Fisheries and regional council harbourmasters will attend the course to provide fishing and boating information.
