Regional council checks for Coromandel damage

Waikato Regional Council staff will be checking for flooding damage and liaising with landowners after heavy rain on the Coromandel overnight.

“We’ll be looking to see if the likes of flood protection infrastructure and stream channels are damaged or blocked,” said the council’s Whitianga-based Coromandel zone manager Tonia Clarkson.

“We’ll also be checking with landowners in vulnerable areas to see if they have faced any problems.”

Ms Clarkson said the regional council would liaise with Thames-Coromandel District Council over any issues uncovered this morning.

“This was a significant rain event overnight and we’ll work closely with local people on any needed response.”
