No change for Council elections

Next year’s elections for Environment Waikato councillors will be held on the same basis as the 2001 election.

The Council is required to review its representation under the Local Electoral Act either in 2003 (for the 2004 election) or 2006 (for the 2007 election).

Councillors have decided to retain the present system of voters electing 14 councillors from 10 constituencies under the “First Past the Post” voting system. A comprehensive review of the Regional Council’s membership and a boundary review will be undertaken by 2006 to be effective for the 2007 elections.
