New bus service for base shops

A new bus service began today out to the new shopping area known as The Base.

The new shopping area, opened last week by Prime Minister Helen Clark, will have a growing number of retail outlets over the next few months. The bus service will be an extension of the Nawton service heading out to Wintec’s Avalon complex.

Environment Waikato Land Transport Manager Bill McMaster said the Council is looking into including an east-west link to also bring shoppers from the Flagstaff side of the city across to The Base.

Currently the bus service will follow the normal Nawton timetable (No 9 route), with 30 minute departures at peak times and 60 minute departures between 9am and 3.30pm.
