A new bus stop at one of Hamilton’s busiest interchanges has been completed ahead of schedule and will be used for the first time tomorrow.
Work on the bus stop outside the Chartwell library in Lynden Court began at the end of October to enable buses to drop off and pick up passengers from both sides of the road.
That means the Orbiter, Flagstaff, Rototuna and Rototuna Direct services will no longer have to do a loop along Comries and Hukanui Roads to get to the bus stop, reducing travel times and improving connectivity.
Regional council group transport manager Vaughan Payne said: “The new bus stop was due to be opened at the end of November. We’re happy to report that work by Hamilton City Council contractors has been completed quicker than expected, resulting in much less disruption for passengers.
“Now that the loop is no longer necessary for some buses, passengers will be able to enjoy a quicker and more reliable service.
“The new bus stop will also result in less crowding for passengers catching the bus in Lynden Court,” Mr Payne said.
The Lynden Court bus stop is Hamilton’s second busiest interchange, servicing the Flagstaff, Chartwell, Claudelands, Rototuna, Northerner, Orbiter and Rototuna Direct routes.
