Election management experts, election.com Limited has combined forces with website New Zealand Local Government Online, to place results from the local elections online on Election Day, Saturday October 13.
With the co-operation and support of electoral officers for the 86 councils conducting elections, preliminary results will be available through www.localgovt.co.nz(external link) as soon as they have been released. Results are expected to be progressively announced from around 2 pm onwards.
The recent new legislation modernising the law governing the conduct of local elections, and in particular provisions allowing the early processing of votes during the voting period, allow the release of this information as soon as counting has been concluded. There is no longer the requirement to wait until the traditional 7 pm release time.
The New Zealand Local Government Online facility will show paths to the Preliminary Results where a council has these displayed on its own website, and for those without a website, results will be posted to a special page within New Zealand Local Government Online.
