Hi tech bus signal gets go ahead

A high tech electronic system that tells waiting passengers when the next bus will arrive will be installed in Hamilton early this year.

The contract for supply and installation of ‘real time’ passenger information has been let and will be installed around the city in late January. The pilot scheme will be operating by April and spread to the rest of the city by November next year.

Bus services are also being extended in the city. New passenger transport contracts will extend routes further north in the Pukete/ Te Kowhai Rd area, and changes are being made to the Northerner route to cover new subdivisions in the Horsham Downs area. The Claudelands route will be split in half with the Ruakura Rd/Silverdale Rd area covered by the extension.

Hillcrest’s route will be lengthened and go into the Riverlea Rd/Hudson St/McCracken Ave area. The new services start on July 1.
