Environment Waikato has granted $6500 to Otorohanga District Council towards an “information wheel” about waste reduction for all Otorohanga residents.
The District Council had applied for assistance towards the research, design, manufacture and distribution of the information wheel, which would identify waste management and minimisation options for residential and light commercial or industrial wastes.
The wheel would identify locally available options, including minimisation at source, re-use, recycling and processing services and disposal services for residual wastes, including hazardous materials.
The District Council believed that a compact, easily stored and readily accessible educational resource would contribute positively to reducing waste and unsatisfactory waste practices. The project could involve other neighbouring local authorities if they had similar solid waste services.
North King Country Cr Andra Neely said she congratulated the District Council on its pro-active approach to waste reduction.
