Environment Waikato’s Corporate Services Committee has recommended to Council that it seek costs from the group of upper catchment farmers who lost a judicial review of the Council’s Piako River rating decision.
A report to today’s Committee meeting said the review of the Piako rating system had cost the Council $51,730 so far, including $39,146 in legal expenses. The judge who found for the Council also granted costs against the group of farmers.
The group has now appealed to the Court of Appeal.
The Committee has deferred a decision on whether any unrecovered costs should be borne by the Piako scheme ratepayers.
