Council to assist water festival

Environment Waikato’s Environment Committee has recommended granting $2000 towards a Putaruru Water Festival next month.

The Pride in Putaruru Society is organising the festival to encourage the community to celebrate water resources and educate people about the long-term renewable use of water. This year is the United Nations year of pure water, and the festival is planned to become an annual event.

Olympic marathon runner Lorraine Moller is to attend as a water ambassador, touring schools and creating awareness of sustainable fresh water resources, and how to protect water sources. The group will also create promotional material and flyers, run a science fair event on water quality and a clean up day in the town.
