Council talking to lawyers on court judgement

Environment Waikato’s lawyers are reviewing this week’s High Court decision on a long-standing dispute with the former ECNZ over rates payments.

The Court has made a judgement in favour of ECNZ for an amount of $2.054 million plus interest in the case, which dates back to 1990.

Environment Waikato’s Chief Financial Officer Warren Stevens said the Council received the judgement this afternoon. Its legal representation was examining the judgement and would advise the Council if an appeal was appropriate.

The new Council meets for the first time tomorrow.
