Council lays earthworks charges

Environment Waikato laid eight charges against a civil engineering firm, an earthworks firm and two individuals for breaches of the Resource Management Act in Hamilton District Court yesterday.

The charges are for offences relating to an earthworks subdivision in Pauanui and follow a four-month investigation by Environment Waikato staff.

It is alleged the offending occurred on June 12 this year, when sediment was discharged off the work site and into Tairua Harbour.

The charges will be transferred to Thames District Court and the court will set a hearing date.

Further details are not yet available because the matter is before the courts and is therefore sub judice.
