The graph below shows people's levels of satisfaction with their environment in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2013, 2016 and 2019.

  • The most common score and the median (or middle score) were seven. In 2019 the median was 6.
  • Consistent with past years, in 2019 most people (72 per cent) were moderately (57 per cent) or highly satisfied (15 per cent) with their environment.
  • In 2019, however, 25 per cent of people were not satisfied with their environment, which is the highest it has ever been. In past years (1998-2016) scores only ranged from 8–11 per cent.
